So I have been slacking on the blog lately BUT that’s because I have been working hard on a lot of exciting new things that are almost finalized. Stay tuned for more on that! Before I finally go to bed tonight after a long day, I make my favorite bed time snack. I look forward to this all day! It caps off my macros perfectly & satisfies my sweet tooth! Behold, my go-to cinnamon rice pudding casein protein & peanut butter treat.
To make this delicious bowl of goodness, I use Just Be Natural Cinnamon Rice Pudding Casein Protein, Earth Balance Creamy Peanut Butter, & water. I take out my scale and a small bowl. I weigh out my desired amount of protein (varies daily depending on what I ate earlier) which is usually 35 grams (which = 22 grams of protein). I then add a little bit of water and mix (slowly adding more water) until it is creamy like pudding. Next, I weigh out my desired amount of peanut butter (which also depends on what I ate earlier that day) which is usually 1 tablespoon or 16 grams on the scale. Lastly, I pop it in the microwave for :15 seconds, take it out, mix it all together, & then devour it. It’s so good that I usually lick the bowl clean…. Oops.
Why casein protein before bed?
This type of protein is a slow-digesting protein that ensures our body gets a steady stream of nutrients over night to prevent muscle breakdown. It eliminates the catabolic phase that the body experiences between meals and in the nighttime hours when we aren’t eating.
Why peanut butter?
Because it’s delicious, duh! And adding a healthy fat to the casein slows the bodies digestion time of the casein even more, ensuring the body is receiving a steady stream of nutrients over night.
I highly suggest trying this out if you A) aren’t getting enough protein during the day and B) are big into working out/health/nutrition/etc. You can grab some of JBN’s casein protein over at their website www.jbn.com and use the code “QUADS15” during check out for a 15% discount!
